Seven years ago, my brother called from California to tell me he was getting married. At the time, I was living with my family in Moscow and doing feature picture stories for newspapers and magazines. I used the candid style and story-telling skills I'd learned as a photojournalist to document their day with stunning results. About a month later, I started getting calls from people asking me to photograph their wedding. They never asked me to imitate a particular style or to mimic a picture seen in a wedding magazine. Rather, the couples who hire me are looking for something different from the typical posed portraits. They trust that I will capture in my pictures the real people and emotions on such an important day in their lives.
