A San Francisco native, I live in Monte Rio on the Russian River near the California coast with my wife Inna, a painter from St. Petersburg, Russia and our daughter Alexandra (who designed my logo!)
When I was fourteen I bought my first Nikon. I loved the wonder and surprise that came with every exposed roll of film. Though I studied at UC Santa Cruz, my real training as a photographer came from the ten years I lived in Russia and worked for US, British and French newspapers and magazines. When I moved there without knowing the language, people invited me into their lives and I came to understand a commonality of human emotions and life experiences that bonded me with the people whose stories I told through my pictures.
Now back in the US, I continue my documentary work and photograph weddings, portraits and landscapes.
